A Fortune 100 company, Tesoro Corporation is an independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products. Volunteerism and philanthropy are woven into Tesoro’s business and company culture, and Tesoro strives to be an active member in the communities in which its employees live and work. These communities include: Kenai, Alaska; Martinez, California; Wilmington, California; Mandan, North Dakota; San Antonio, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; Anacortes, Washington; and areas throughout Hawaii.
Program Areas: Tesoro Corporation awards grants that support programs and organizations that focus on:
- Education.
- Environment.
- Community vitality.
Tesoro pays special attention to requests from nonprofit organizations that address issues related to youth development and education, particularly for low-income and minority populations, intellectually disabled youth and adults, and the elderly.
Targeted Areas: Midwest, Southwest, and West.
Eligibility: Contributions are limited to locations and surrounding areas in which Tesoro has significant operations. In addition, Tesoro’s contributions do not support:
- Nonprofit organizations that do not hold 501(c)(3) tax-deductible status under the Internal Revenue Code.
- Research programs.
- Government agencies.
- Individuals.
- Travel, either by group or individuals.
- Sporting events.
- Meetings, conferences, or seminars.
- Advertising or marketing sponsorships.
- Capital projects.
- Religious organizations.
- Political groups.
Award Amount: Award amounts vary.
Application Process: Tesoro Corporation encourages nonprofit applicants to carefully review the requirements and limitations outlined in the Tesoro Charitable Contribution Guidelines before completing and submitting an application. The application can be downloaded from the company’s Web site. Eligible nonprofits must complete the Tesoro Charitable Contribution Application and submit it with all required attachments. Tesoro will review only those proposals that completely meet the requirements. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed or returned. Tesoro submits its decision in writing regarding complete proposals. The corporation will typically outline the terms of payments in a letter, along with any requirements for evaluation and final reporting.
Each application is reviewed by a local committee in the area in which the charitable organization is located. The Contact section below provides the local mailing addresses to which applicants can submit their charitable contribution application.
